Qualification Requirements
An applicant must meet Graduate School requirements plus the following departmental requirements to be considered for admission to the program: completion of three semesters of undergraduate calculus and at least 18 credits of acceptable undergraduate preparation beyond calculus, these credits should include courses on probability and statistics equivalent to the sequence MTHSTAT 361/MTHSTAT 362, and courses on advanced calculus equivalent to the sequence MATH 521/MATH 522. Students must apply to UWM and the Department of Mathematical Sciences by completing the online application. A key component of the application requires the applicant to provide names and e-mail addresses of three (3) individuals who have agreed to provide letters of recommendation. Submission of general GRE scores is recommended, but not required, the GRE Mathematics subject test scores are appreciated, but not required.
The Department of Mathematical Sciences encourages, but does not currently require submission of general GRE scores. GRE Mathematics subject test scores are appreciated, but also not required. You must have attended this institution for at least one year and the degree was earned at an institution in the United States, and you have lived and worked continuously in the U.S since earning the degree. Cambridge English: Advanced / Cambridge English Proficiency C1 level or higher. TOEFL IBT (not Home Edition) - 79 120, IELTS - 6.5 9.0.
