The Department of Geosciences provides a Master of Science (MS) program designed to prepare students for professional careers or advanced academic pursuits. Through this MS curriculum, you'll evolve beyond technical expertise into a leadership role capable of overseeing sophisticated projects involving development, analysis, interpretation, and results dissemination. Most students complete the program within two years.
Our Geosciences MS program equips students with rigorous scientific training and hands-on research experience, concluding with a formal thesis. The degree combines coursework with research components to develop observational abilities, analytical reasoning, quantitative skills, and effective communication. We aim to foster specialized expertise in specific geoscience areas while maintaining comprehensive knowledge of the broader field. Qualification Requirements
An applicant must meet Graduate School requirements plus the following departmental requirements to be considered for admission to the program:
Hold a bachelor's degree in one of the natural sciences, engineering, or mathematics.
Have an appropriate background in aspects of the geosciences relevant the intended field of study.
Provide the names of at least three (3) people who can submit letters of recommendation speaking to your research skills and ability to succeed in a research-based MS program.
Provide a reason statement.
You must have attended this institution for at least one year and the degree was earned at an institution in the United States, and you have lived and worked continuously in the U.S since earning the degree. Cambridge English: Advanced / Cambridge English Proficiency C1 level or higher. TOEFL IBT (not Home Edition) - 79 120, IELTS - 6.5 9.0.
