The Department of Geology and Geological Engineering provides Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy programs in Geology, along with Master of Engineering, Master of Science, and Doctor of Philosophy options in Geological Engineering. Professional Master's programs are available in Mineral Exploration. To enroll in Geological Engineering degrees, students must hold or obtain an undergraduate engineering degree or equivalent qualification.
Graduate students focusing on groundwater studies, engineering geology/geotechnics, mining engineering geology, and certain environmental applications typically pursue the Geological Engineering degree. Those interested in petroleum or mineral exploration, development sciences, or general geology usually opt for geology degrees.
Geoscience students can also select from various interdisciplinary graduate programs involving faculty from multiple Mines departments.
