The Department of Biological Sciences provides Doctoral and Master of Science programs spanning diverse biological disciplines, including Cell and Molecular Biology (encompassing neuroscience and developmental biology), Ecology, Evolution and Behavior, and Microbiology. Our distinguished faculty, recognized both nationally and globally, mentor students across various research specializations within these fields, offering numerous opportunities for graduate students to focus on their preferred areas. The program emphasizes research methodology, data interpretation, and honing written and verbal communication abilities. As research-focused degrees, both the thesis-based M.S. and Ph.D. require students to produce publishable original research. Collaborative programs with other university departments are also an option. Additionally, we provide a non-thesis M.S. program with a strong emphasis on coursework. We encourage applications from interdisciplinary backgrounds including chemistry/biochemistry, psychology, medical sciences, mathematics, and freshwater science. Our graduates gain comprehensive research and teaching experience, equipping them for professional success in academic, corporate, or public sector careers.
