For more than three decades, the Architecture Ph.D. Program has been a cornerstone of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee's standing as a pioneer in architectural scholarship and teaching. This doctoral program brings together researchers, professionals, advocates, and instructors dedicated to pushing the boundaries of architectural theory and application. Housed within an architecture school, the initiative balances academic exploration with practical engagement. Faculty and students at the School of Architecture and Urban Planning work to expand architectural understanding through diverse investigative approaches. They foster open intellectual exchange and rigorous analysis of societal, cultural, ecological, and technological dimensions, while exploring themes spanning architectural heritage, theoretical frameworks, human interaction, equity issues, and sustainability initiatives.
