Microbiology focuses on examining microscopic life forms, including bacteria, archaea, protists, fungi, and viruses. Our Department provides a Bachelor of Science in Microbiology program with hands-on research opportunities to explore various elements of microbial composition and activity. These tiny organisms were Earth's earliest life forms and continue to be both the most numerous and varied life forms today. They can trigger illnesses in plants, animals, and humans while simultaneously serving vital roles in environmental processes, waste cleanup, and food/biotech applications.
Pursuing microbiology places students at the forefront of advancements in healthcare, manufacturing technologies, biotech innovations, and pharmaceutical development. This major equips students for diverse career paths in microbiology, virology, molecular biology, biotechnology, and healthcare fields, as well as for advanced studies in medical, industrial, or environmental microbiology, microbial biotechnology, molecular biology, or professional programs in pharmacy, dentistry, and medicine.
