At UWM, biomedical engineering (BME) students master how to apply engineering concepts to medical practices. They participate in joint, cross-disciplinary research initiatives alongside laboratories from the College of Engineering & Applied Science, College of Letters & Science, College of Health Sciences, School of Nursing, School of Public Health, and regional industry partners.

The BME bachelor's program focuses on engineering design to prepare graduates for careers in biomedical companies or entrepreneurial ventures in this rapidly expanding sector. First and second-year students complete foundational coursework covering engineering fundamentals, software utilization, human biology, and effective communication. Third-year students study sensor technology, biomedical data analysis, and healthcare equipment. Fourth-year students additionally undertake culminating design projects and the Product Realization course in diverse teams. Numerous elective options enable upperclassmen to focus on their preferred specialization areas.
