The BFA: Guitar program allows students to select either classical or jazz guitar as their primary focus. Guitar majors enroll in specialized courses covering repertoire, ensemble performance, teaching methods, and the history of guitar. This intensive BFA curriculum is designed to refine your abilities on your chosen instrument. Situated within a top-tier research university, our conservatory-style department features accomplished artist-instructors dedicated to mentoring and educating aspiring musicians. Recognizing the collaborative nature of the music field, the program encourages regular interaction with fellow students, visiting artists, and industry professionals from throughout campus, Milwaukee (Wisconsin's cultural hub), and other locations.

Qualification Requirements

All applicants whose native language is not English must provide proof of English proficiency in one of the following ways:
An approved test score that meets the requirement for regular or conditional admission.
University study: Completion of at least 18 months of full-time, for-credit academic study (approximately three semesters) at a recognized or accredited institution of higher education whose language of instruction is English immediately prior to enrollment at UWM.
Secondary/high school study: Proof of completion of the last two years of secondary/high school at an institution whose language of instruction is English immediately prior to enrollment at UWM. TOEFL IBT - 79 or higher, TOEFL PBT - 548 or higher, IELTS - 6.5
