The Film Studies Department's Bachelor of Arts program explores cinema and television through historical, theoretical, and critical lenses. Students develop skills to thoughtfully examine how film and TV influence people and communities, draw parallels between media, historical contexts, and cultural shifts, and evaluate various formats. Moving images transcend eras, geographies, languages, and traditions. Accordingly, Film Studies majors pursue an equally varied curriculum. The program combines core Film Studies courses with offerings from English, Art History, Comparative Literature, History, Religious Studies, and multiple language departments. Studying at UWM provides unique access to Wisconsin's biggest city, featuring vibrant arthouse theaters, an expanding indie film sector, and a dynamic movie-going community.
