The University of Oregon's Cinema Studies Department provides a unique chance to investigate all aspects of visual media. Learners develop expertise in both creating visual content and analyzing it critically. Unlike conventional film programs focused solely on production, UO's curriculum examines cinema, television, and digital media through multiple academic lenses. Our cross-disciplinary approach covers both the artistic and technical elements of visual storytelling, along with its cultural, historical, and global significance.
Given cinema's multifaceted nature, the program includes a wide range of courses spanning historical analysis, theoretical frameworks, critical evaluation, artistic principles, and digital creation. Students engage with coursework from various departments across the university, including Arts and Sciences, Journalism and Communication, and Design.
