The Department of Life Sciences Communication stands at the forefront of global science communication through its research, education, and practical applications. Our master's program provides two distinct tracks: a research/thesis option and a professional coursework-based alternative.
The professional track focuses on equipping students with practical skills for careers in life sciences communication and similar disciplines. This path typically doesn't lead to PhD studies, as many doctoral programs (including our own) don't consider non-thesis master's degrees when evaluating PhD applicants.
Our department specializes in science communication research and instruction, particularly concerning emerging technologies, bioenergy, environmental issues, agriculture, healthcare, and food systems. The MS in Life Sciences Communication delivers advanced professional development in both communication practice and research methodology. Professional track students prepare for roles in consulting, policy development, science journalism, strategic communication, marketing, and market research within science-oriented industries.
International applicants must have a degree comparable to a regionally accredited U.S. bachelor’s degree.
