The Master of Arts in Southeast Asian Studies is an interdisciplinary graduate program catering to two primary student groups: those pursuing area expertise certification before entering a doctoral program in their discipline, and those aiming for a terminal MA degree to pursue diverse careers in Southeast Asia, spanning fields like business, journalism, government, and international organizations.
The Center for Southeast Asian Studies oversees this structured graduate program while promoting interdisciplinary research on Southeast Asia across various colleges, professional schools, and degree programs university-wide. This program enables students to focus their studies on this vibrant region through multiple academic and professional lenses, including anthropology, communications (journalism), development studies, education, economics, environmental science, geography, history, linguistics, literature, performing arts (music and dance), political science, public health, religious studies, sociology, urban planning, as well as natural resources, business administration, legal studies, and public policy.
International applicants must have a degree comparable to a regionally accredited U.S. bachelor’s degree.
