The Chinese Linguistics program at UW-Madison ranks among the top programs in North America. Founded in the 1960s, our department provides both Master's and Doctoral degrees in Chinese linguistics. Our goal is to train the next generation of Chinese language scholars who excel equally in teaching and academic research.
Please note that Professor Zhang is currently not accepting new graduate students at UW-Madison. We are exclusively reviewing applications from students focused on Chinese applied linguistics, including areas like pragmatics, second language learning, language teaching methodologies, and similar disciplines.

Qualification Requirements
A bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited U.S. institution or a comparable degree from an international institution is required.
A minimum undergraduate grade-point average (GPA) of 3.00 on the equivalent of the last 60 semester hours (approximately two years of work) or a master's degree with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00 is required. Applicants from an international institution must demonstrate strong academic achievement comparable to a 3.00 for an undergraduate or master's degree.
