A key difference between American Sociology and its European roots lies in the emphasis on race and ethnicity. Consequently, the Sociology Department at the University of Wisconsin-Madison employs multiple faculty members with diverse perspectives and research methods for studying race and ethnicity, along with running a dedicated Race and Ethnicity Workshop. This setup allows students to not only attend graduate seminars taught by different professors but also deepen their knowledge of this specialization and receive input on their academic work through weekly workshop sessions. Additionally, while the Department offers standard courses and the workshop, students are advised to explore relevant classes in other departments as well.
