Similar to the field of historical studies, our department originated with a focus on European history, which continues to be one of our fundamental strengths. Our faculty's knowledge in European history covers its entire timeline - from antiquity and the Middle Ages to the Renaissance and contemporary periods - as well as its vast geographic scope, stretching from the British Isles to Southern Europe and from Western Europe to Eastern territories. Key areas of specialization encompass gender studies, cultural identity, religious traditions (particularly Jewish and Christian), imperial and national histories, military and social dynamics, population movements and frontier regions, as well as cross-border ideological trends.
