Film studies focuses mainly on the history, theory, and critique of motion pictures, explored through in-depth analysis of specific films, examination of filmmakers' original documents and industry records, and developing theoretical frameworks for film forms, styles, national film traditions, genres, and industry economics. The program emphasizes the relationship between academic film study and practical filmmaking. Production courses deepen our grasp of cinematic history and theory by exposing the real-world choices filmmakers face. This program isn't intended for those exclusively interested in film production.
