The Department of Biological Systems Engineering (BSE) offers graduate programs culminating in Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy degrees. Program alumni meet the growing demand for highly skilled engineers across industries, consulting practices, government organizations, and academic institutions.
BSE graduate students typically pursue deeper knowledge of contemporary theories, fundamental concepts, key challenges, and pressing issues in biological systems. They seek to understand knowledge creation processes, critical assessment methods, and the development and implementation of problem-solving approaches. Advanced studies enhance students' capacities for innovative thinking, critical analysis, and synthesizing information to make decisions and solve complex problems.
Students can engage in specialized research and advanced studies across multiple focus areas including biological systems engineering, environmental quality and natural resource management, waste processing technologies, food and bioprocess engineering, nanotechnology with biosensing applications, mechanical systems, bio-resource utilization and refining, as well as agricultural safety and health initiatives.
International applicants must have a degree comparable to a regionally accredited U.S. bachelor’s degree.
