The Art History Department provides both Master of Arts and Doctor of Philosophy degree programs. Students benefit from personalized guidance from faculty and access to exceptional resources for cross-disciplinary studies. Our professors are globally recognized experts in their fields, frequently earning distinguished honors, presenting at international conferences, and holding leadership positions in professional organizations. Alumni typically enter academia or professional roles in museums, galleries, auction firms, libraries, archives, architectural preservation, or art conservation. The Department embraces varied methodologies for examining art, architecture, urban spaces, visual culture, and museum practices.
Students can gain hands-on experience by participating in exhibition projects through specialized courses or assistant positions. The department shares its facility with the Kohler Art Library, housing an outstanding collection of art publications and comprehensive journal holdings.
International applicants must have a degree comparable to a regionally accredited U.S. bachelor’s degree.
