Technological progress is deeply intertwined with our capacity to create, modify, and utilize materials. Our way of life depends on our skills in material processing and manufacturing, in innovating both conventional and unconventional materials for diverse industries, and in pioneering high-performance materials for future practical uses. The materials that will transform our lives could include next-gen superalloys for extreme conditions like intense heat or corrosive settings, novel energy-related materials for generation, storage, and distribution, or advanced organic and inorganic substances for applications spanning electronics to healthcare—plus entirely new material systems to meet society's growing demands.
Materials specialists work across numerous industries, engaging in experimental, computational, or theoretical materials science and engineering—or a blend of all three. The undergraduate program culminates in a Bachelor of Science in Materials Science and Engineering, equipping students with fundamental knowledge to excel in dynamic, materials-driven industries. The curriculum offers significant flexibility, allowing students to customize their studies through electives and faculty guidance to align with their specific materials interests. It emphasizes science, engineering, collaboration, creative problem-solving, and communication skills. Graduates emerge ready for industrial careers or advanced academic pursuits.
