Mathematics explores the world by examining numbers, forms, relationships, and transformations to develop rational approaches that enhance and enrich life. Serving as a link between arts and sciences, mathematics has been a cornerstone of liberal education for over two millennia. Scientific disciplines consistently rely on mathematical methods to test and validate theoretical predictions. Recently, social sciences have also embraced advanced mathematical tools for education and investigation. As a continually growing field, mathematics now contributes to more emerging and complex domains than ever before—from data analytics to quantum information processing—demanding innovative methods and sparking fresh avenues of inquiry.
Mathematics graduates pursue diverse careers in corporate, industrial, and public sectors, including secondary education (typically requiring teaching credentials). Many continue their studies in mathematics or related disciplines at graduate level. Numerous academic programs—spanning social sciences, life sciences, engineering, and physical sciences—actively seek mathematics graduates for advanced study. Those earning doctorates in mathematics secure faculty positions or enter research and advisory roles. The mathematics curriculum offers adaptable pathways to accommodate different aspirations, passions, and professional trajectories.
