Legal studies is an undergraduate degree program offered by the College of Letters & Science. This interdisciplinary curriculum aims to deliver a broad liberal arts education centered on legal theories, systems, and institutions. Through diverse coursework, students examine law as a societal construct - investigating its development, purpose, underlying principles, and societal impacts. While not specifically designed as pre-law training, the program offers valuable perspectives for students considering legal careers by examining wide-ranging questions about law through multiple academic lenses.
The program structure emphasizes five key areas: Legal Systems, Patterns of Legal Stability and Change, Law's Interaction with Society, Cultural Dimensions of Law, and Theoretical Foundations of Law.
