Legal studies is an undergraduate program offered by the College of Letters & Science. This curriculum aims to deliver a broad liberal arts education that examines legal theories, systems, and institutions. Through diverse coursework, students explore law as a societal construct—studying its development, purpose, underlying principles, and societal impact. While not specifically designed as pre-law training, the major offers valuable perspectives for students considering legal careers by examining wide-ranging legal questions through multiple lenses.
The program structure revolves around five core areas: Legal Systems, Patterns of Legal Stability and Change, Law in Social Contexts, Cultural Dimensions of Law, and Theoretical Foundations of Law.
