The Chemistry Department's mission is to perform cutting-edge, internationally renowned research in chemical sciences while delivering top-tier education to undergraduates, graduates, and postdoctoral researchers. Our research excellence spans traditional fields like physical, analytical, inorganic, and organic chemistry, while expanding into emerging areas such as environmental chemistry, chemical biology, biophysical chemistry, materials science, and nanotechnology. We take pride in fostering a collaborative, diverse, and intellectually vibrant scientific community. Our commitment to teamwork links us with peers across campus, nationwide, and globally.
Undergraduates can earn either a Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry through the College of Letters & Science. The program offers comprehensive chemistry training alongside a broad liberal arts education, while creating ample opportunities for hands-on scientific exploration through lab courses and research projects. Students from other university colleges may add chemistry as a secondary major. Chemistry majors must fulfill both their college's general education requirements and the specific chemistry program requirements.
