UC Berkeley provides two undergraduate chemistry degree options: a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) from the College of Chemistry and a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) from the College of Letters and Science. The B.S. program emphasizes hands-on laboratory experience, advanced instrumentation techniques, and quantitative methods. This rigorous curriculum also includes comprehensive coursework in mathematics and physics through upper-division sequences.
Designed for aspiring professional chemists, the B.S. degree prepares students for careers in various fields including environmental science, pharmaceuticals, materials development, and industrial chemistry. It also serves as excellent preparation for graduate studies in chemistry, scientific positions in government or industry, teaching professions, or related career paths. B.S. students can further specialize by selecting concentrations in Computational Chemistry or Materials Chemistry.
To be considered for admission to UC Berkeley, international applicants must:
finish secondary school and
earn a certificate of completion, which allows admission to a university in their home country or country of graduation
The university requires further study, either completion of the two-year A-level program with a minimum of three academic exams, the IB diploma program, or another similar academic curriculum.
For (IBT) minimum score of 80 or better, Paper-based test (completed prior to Oct. 2017): Minimum score of 550 or better, Revised paper-delivered test (completed Oct. 2017 or later): Minimum score of 60 or better, (IELTS) Accepted with a 6.5 or better band score (academic modules)
