The Elementary and Middle Education (EME) programs equip aspiring educators to instruct the four core subjects (English/language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies) for kindergarten through 9th grade. This unified certification program develops future teachers' abilities and attitudes to support all classroom learners while enabling specialization through content minors or elective courses.
DES provides four alternative routes to this standard teaching certification, each combining preparation for an additional credential in high-demand fields: K-12 special education, K-12 English language learner instruction (TESOL), or K-12 Spanish or French language teaching.
