The Cultural Anthropology Emphasis Major at UWL prepares students to explore cross-cultural global concerns and engage in careers tackling social issues across local and international contexts. Cultural anthropologists foster meaningful connections while promoting diversity's advantages, valuing collective wisdom and recognizing that meaningful transformation involves collaboration among diverse stakeholders. We understand solutions must be context-specific - approaches that succeed with one community may not apply to others with distinct backgrounds, political systems, and value systems. Our curriculum employs comprehensive, intercultural, and comparative frameworks to examine human diversity, equipping students with theoretical knowledge and methodological tools to comprehend modern societies through indigenous perspectives. Students can choose from diverse coursework examining cultural practices worldwide, along with specialized area studies. We strongly advocate for international study opportunities, and our students regularly pursue globally situated research and internships, frequently supported by university grants.
