The University of Washington's Medical Speech-Language Pathology (MedSLP) Master of Science program holds the third position nationwide in U.S. News & World Report's graduate school rankings. Both the UW Department of Speech & Hearing Sciences and its clinical programs maintain accreditation from the Council on Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology (CAA). Graduates of the MedSLP program receive a Master of Science in Medical Speech-Language Pathology from UW and qualify to pursue ASHA's Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC). This intensive two-year master's program builds upon core principles of human communication and its disorders, offering specialized training for aspiring medical speech-language pathologists. The curriculum prepares students for clinical practice in healthcare environments like hospitals and rehab facilities, featuring a unique medical-focused approach and community-based clinical training model that sets it apart from other programs.
All applicants MUST have one of the following undergraduate degrees:
1) Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution with a major in Speech and Hearing Sciences, Communication Disorders, Communication Sciences & Disorders or a similarly named major
OR
2) An undergraduate degree in another major (from a regionally accredited institution), with sufficient undergraduate coursework in Speech and Hearing Sciences, Communication Disorders, Communication Sciences and Disorders or a similarly named program.
TOEFL iBT test scores of 97 or higher AND minimum scores in the subtests as follows:
24 for Reading
23 for Listening
26 for Speaking
24 for Writing
Duolingo English scores of 120 or higher (Due to COVID-19, we will temporarily accept these scores for Summer and Autumn 2021 admissions)
To be considered for admission, applicants are required to have a minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 (B) during the last 90 quarter or 60 semester credit hours of study.
