Students holding bachelor's degrees in fields outside mechanical or aerospace engineering who prefer not to complete the undergraduate prerequisites for the MSME program may be eligible for the Master of Science in Engineering (MSE) degree. The MSE program follows identical coursework and completion standards as the MSME, but eliminates the need for foundational undergraduate ME classes as prerequisites. Admission to the MSE program only requires basic mathematics, natural sciences, and fundamental engineering coursework. Graduates of our MSE program report no additional challenges in securing employment. Their diverse academic backgrounds can actually make them more attractive candidates for engineering roles, as their MS in Engineering credentials demonstrate broad qualifications. Industry hiring patterns show employers increasingly value graduates with hands-on project experience or specialized knowledge over traditional entry-level engineering skills. Similar to MSME students, those pursuing the MSE degree should actively choose courses and seek project or research opportunities that align with their career goals.
