The Master of Jurisprudence (M.J.) program caters to professionals without legal backgrounds who want to better understand legal matters affecting their work. Those pursuing careers with legal aspects will develop practical, valuable legal expertise to strengthen their professional credentials across various fields. With just four requirements—three core courses plus a significant research project—students can tailor their academic journey. Our M.J. faculty and advisors collaborate individually with each student to design a personalized curriculum. Students may also enroll in pertinent courses from other university departments. Working professionals can maintain work-life balance through part-time enrollment and flexible morning/evening class schedules while engaging with the law school community. The program offers hands-on learning opportunities, allowing students to gain real-world experience through externships with leading local businesses and organizations. UW's forward-thinking intellectual property curriculum combines rigorous theory with practical application. IP-focused M.J. students gain from this dual approach while learning from dedicated faculty and seasoned IP practitioners who teach as adjunct professors.
