The Master of Jurisprudence (M.J.) program caters to professionals without legal backgrounds who want to better understand legal matters affecting their work. Those pursuing careers with legal aspects will develop practical, valuable legal expertise to strengthen their professional credentials across various fields. With just four requirements—three core courses plus a significant research project—students can tailor their education. Our M.J. faculty collaborate individually with each student to design a personalized curriculum. You'll also have opportunities to take pertinent courses in other university departments. Working professionals can choose part-time enrollment and flexible class schedules to maintain work-life balance while engaging with the law school community. The program offers hands-on learning experiences, allowing students to complete externships with innovative local businesses or nonprofit organizations.
Admission to the Master of Jurisprudence (M.J.) program requires a bachelor's degree (or the equivalent). In addition, applicants must demonstrate an interest in the study of law and its application to a particular subject matter area or an interest in law and policy.
