For over four decades, the UW Professional Actor Training Program (PATP) has maintained its reputation as an esteemed three-year conservatory program. This intensive training culminates in a Master of Fine Arts degree in acting. Our mission focuses on equipping rigorously chosen actors with the skills needed for professional theater, film, television, and digital media. The curriculum blends Stanislavski's classical techniques with comprehensive physical training encompassing Suzuki Method, Viewpoints, Alexander Technique, and stage combat.
At PATP, our core objective is to equip actors with both the technical skills and artistic sensitivity to excel in theater while remaining adaptable across all performance mediums. Our instructors are accomplished theater practitioners passionate about mentoring the next generation.
Equally vital, the program encourages perpetual artistic discovery and investigation of the creative forces that shape an actor's craft. We emphasize collaborative ensemble work, cross-disciplinary partnerships, and the development of entrepreneurial abilities to cultivate well-rounded, adaptable performers.
Students who hold (or will hold by the time they enroll) a baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution may apply. Most applicants have undergraduate degrees in theatre, but that is not essential.
