The Master of Arts in Jewish Thought is an in-depth 30-credit program offering specialized study in Judaism's intellectual and spiritual development, particularly focusing on medieval through contemporary periods. Students engage with both traditional and modern writings, analyzing influential thinkers who have shaped this discipline. Through careful textual analysis, participants uncover foundational concepts, trace connections between ideas and philosophers, and investigate how these relate to wider intellectual currents across different historical periods.
Students must have a bachelor’s degree, or foreign equivalent, in the humanities. Reading knowledge of Hebrew is strongly encouraged but is not a prerequisite to admission. However, students must make up language deficiencies before their second year of study. Depending on a student's demonstrated area of interest, research proficiency in another foreign language may be needed in order to complete the final project or thesis. Undergraduate courses in many relevant foreign languages are available at UB for students that will need to demonstrate additional language competency.
Resume/CV, including any indication of reading knowledge of Hebrew and other non-English languages
