Rehabilitation Science is a multidisciplinary area concentrating on human functionality and impairments. It integrates fundamental and practical studies from health sciences, social sciences, engineering, and allied disciplines to: Improve physical and psychological well-being, community engagement, and life satisfaction for individuals with disabilities, Guide pertinent health and social policies, The University of Washington's esteemed Department of Rehabilitation Medicine provides a PhD program in Rehabilitation Science. The faculty prioritizes student respect, cultivates an environment promoting innovation and high achievement, and facilitates cooperative learning between students and instructors.
Prospective students are expected to have backgrounds in occupational therapy, physical therapy, speech and language pathology, rehabilitation counseling, prosthetics & orthotics, medicine, nursing, engineering, or other fields related to rehabilitation science.
In addition, all applicants will be required to have outstanding academic records and in most cases, documentation of clinical expertise and leadership. Factors considered in admission to this degree track are:
Previous background, including work experience (preferred) and licensure and/or certification to practice (as appropriate), in occupational therapy, physical therapy, speech and language pathology, rehabilitation counseling, prosthetics and orthotics, medicine, nursing, engineering, or other field related to rehabilitation science. Applicants with bachelor's, master's, and clinical doctoral degrees will be considered.
Undergraduate and/or graduate minimum GPA of 3.0 in their field of study
English Proficiency:
The Graduate School is temporarily accepting official test scores for both the Duolingo English Test and the TOEFL ITP Plus For China to assist international students with remote testing options. This policy is currently in effect through the autumn 2021 admission cycle (i.e., students enrolling in autumn 2021).
TOEFL iBT - Minimum Required Score (ELP Required): 80; Recommended Score (ELP Satisfied): 92 or higher
TOEFL pBT - Minimum Required Score: 500
Duolingo: Minimum Required Score (ELP Required): 105; Recommended Score (ELP Satisfied): 120 or higher
IELTS: Minimum Required Score 6.5
