Mathematics represents a broad and dynamic field where theory serves as the foundation. The UW Mathematics Department provides two bachelor's degree options: Mathematics and Applied Computational Mathematical Sciences. Each year, the department teaches over 15,000 students from other disciplines. Beyond fundamental research, mathematics professors and students work jointly on cross-disciplinary initiatives with various UW departments such as Applied Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science and Engineering, Bioengineering, Genome Sciences, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Physics.
