The doctoral program is structured to maintain equilibrium between acquiring comprehensive knowledge in communication studies and focusing on a specialized research area for the dissertation. While program guidelines support these dual objectives, the graduate student and their advisory committee bear principal responsibility for shaping the academic journey. This approach offers students and their committees the adaptability required to customize the program according to individual academic goals and research interests.
Ph.D. applicants must show proof of completion of a master’s degree prior to starting the program, though it is common for those applying to the Ph.D. program to be working on their thesis in the year during which they apply.
