The Ph.D. program focuses on examining culture and communication across three specialized fields: critical intercultural studies, health communication, and media studies. This doctoral curriculum equips students for academic careers in teaching and research, as well as for professional roles in government and industry that demand expertise in applied research.
To complete the Ph.D. in Communication, students must complete 39 credit hours of coursework after obtaining a Master's Degree, along with 18 dissertation credits. The program also allows transferring up to 9 credits from previous M.A. studies or other doctoral programs to fulfill University of New Mexico requirements.
