Interpersonal Communication examines the dynamics and impacts of social exchanges, primarily in direct personal interactions. This field explores both spoken and unspoken behaviors through controlled experiments and real-world observations. Researchers analyze thought processes, emotional responses, and conversational styles during situations like disputes, deception, and influence attempts. Key application areas include healthcare communication and interpersonal dynamics within families and close relationships. The mandatory graduate internship at the Stan Richards School of Advertising & Public Relations bridges theoretical knowledge with hands-on professional practice. Enrollment is restricted to qualified graduate students who have completed necessary prerequisites (verify eligibility with your advisor).
Students must have a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution in the United States or a comparable degree from a foreign academic institution. A grade point average of at least 3.00 in upper-division (junior- and senior-level) coursework and in any graduate work already completed.
The minimum scores considered acceptable for admission by the Graduate School are:
TOEFL: 79 on the Internet-based test (iBT)
IELTS: An overall band of 6.5 on the Academic Examination
