The University of Washington's Department of Anthropology integrates three core anthropological disciplines that shape its faculty, programs, and coursework. While graduate students can enroll in classes across any subfield (or any university department), those applying for admission must select just one of these three programs. Doctoral candidates in anthropology at UW specialize in a single subfield, each with distinct requirements.
The statistics PhD track aims to equip students with practical quantitative and statistical expertise for anthropological research, along with methodologies for conducting data-driven studies. This program primarily follows a curriculum designed by the Center for Statistics and the Social Sciences (CSSS, course code: CS&SS). Graduates of the Statistics Concentration will possess specialized training in social science statistics tailored to their research objectives. By completing a structured sequence of CSSS courses, students engage with the latest advancements in statistical methods and social science applications.
