The University of Washington's Department of Anthropology focuses on three core anthropological disciplines that shape its faculty, programs, and coursework. While graduate students can enroll in classes across all subdisciplines (and other university departments), those applying to the Anthropology Department must select one specific program. Doctoral candidates in anthropology at UW concentrate on a single subfield, each with distinct requirements. The sociocultural anthropology graduate program prepares students for professional careers in both academic and applied settings, emphasizing mastery of disciplinary theories and methodologies through rigorous coursework and program requirements.
Applicants must have at least a BA/BS degree or equivalent. MA only applications are discouraged.
