Our Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) program, part of the Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) curriculum, prepares students to undertake responsibilities similar to those of psychiatrists and therapists. These responsibilities encompass evaluating patients, identifying conditions, and overseeing treatment for mental health and substance use challenges. As a PMHNP student, you'll work with patients across all age groups—from pediatric to geriatric populations—addressing a wide spectrum of psychiatric conditions. In this vital role, you'll collaborate closely with patients and their support networks to enhance mental wellness and recovery.
It is highly recommended that PMHNP track applicants have recent direct patient care experience of at least one year as a registered nurse in psychiatric and mental health, behavioral health, or similar care setting.
