The University of Washington's Persian and Iranian Studies Program focuses on advancing education, research, and informed public discussion about Iran and Persian-speaking regions' rich history and cultural heritage. Led by co-director Aria Fani, an assistant professor in Near Eastern Languages and Civilization (NELC), the program explores the varied Persian and Iranian traditions across the Middle East and global communities. Enrolled students can pursue four years of Persian language and literary studies conducted in Persian, alongside English-taught courses covering Persian literature, history, and cultural studies.
This academic initiative provides bachelor's and master's degree options within NELC specializing in Persian literature and Iranian studies, while maintaining strong collaborations with various university departments, particularly the interdisciplinary Ph.D. program in Near and Middle Eastern Studies.
