The Department of Scandinavian Studies focuses on eight Northern European nations - Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, and Sweden - each with distinct yet interconnected languages and cultures. These regions, which our students examine, lead in areas like design, technology, sustainable environmental approaches, gender parity, and social welfare systems. Within our department, you'll benefit from intimate class settings and direct faculty interaction. Our Baltic Studies program stands unique in the United States, while our Swedish Program ranks among the top two Swedish programs worldwide outside Sweden.
