Rooted in a deep dedication to Indigenous histories, representations, and political movements, the American Indian Studies minor employs interdisciplinary critical inquiry to help students connect scholarly research with their primary fields of study.
Through this minor, students will gain greater cultural awareness—both of their own backgrounds and of Indigenous communities. They'll learn to formulate thoughtful questions and approaches that honor Indigenous perspectives and shared theoretical frameworks. Additionally, students will build skills for effective communication between Indigenous and non-Indigenous groups in academic and professional settings.
The American Indian Studies faculty aims to foster respect for Indigenous diversity and self-determination. Minor participants are encouraged to engage with Indigenous intellectual life by attending speaker events, conferences, symposia, and cultural workshops.
