American Ethnic Studies offers a groundbreaking framework for examining race, ethnicity, and power dynamics by prioritizing the real-world experiences of marginalized communities in American society. Through interdisciplinary lenses that incorporate both community knowledge and academic expertise, the program fosters meaningful scholarly inquiry, thoughtful discussions, and impactful community involvement. Its curriculum further explores intersecting factors including gender identity, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, and transnational connections.
Learners can specialize their education by selecting one of four focus areas: African American Studies, Asian American/Pacific Islander Studies, Chicano/a Studies, or Comparative AES. Graduates leverage their cultural awareness, communication abilities, and nuanced comprehension of social systems to thrive in diverse professional settings across public and private organizations.
Student must have a High School Qualification.
Due to limited testing availability from COVID-19, the UW will accept the Duolingo’s English Test for autumn 2021 applicants. A minimum score of 105 will be required for admission. The TOEFL iBT special home edition and the IELTS Indicator at home exam will also be accepted for 2021 international freshman applicants.
