The University of Virginia's School of Architecture and Frank Batten School of Leadership and Public Policy provide a combined degree program enabling students to earn both MUEP and MPP degrees in three years, rather than the typical four years if pursued separately. Faculty advisors from both schools oversee the program. Students complete the full first-year curriculum of each school, followed by a year of interdisciplinary coursework drawn from both programs and potentially other University graduate offerings. Applicants may choose to begin their studies in either school, then spend their second year completing the first-year requirements of the alternate program. The program allows 20 MPP credits to count toward the MUEP and 12 MUEP credits toward the MPP. Upon completing at least 73 combined credit hours, including all core requirements for both degrees, students receive both the MPP and MUEP. Elective credits can be selected from either school's curriculum in consultation with the program committee.
