The Master of Education in Kinesiology offers a distinctive combination of classroom learning, hands-on fieldwork, clinical experience, and diverse research possibilities. Students can specialize in either Exercise Physiology or Kinesiology for Individuals with Disabilities. This graduate program promotes the exploration, creation, interpretation, sharing, and practical use of knowledge connecting human movement and physical activity to overall wellness. It encourages creative thinking and embraces diversity while equipping students to tackle challenges in our multifaceted society.
The Exercise Physiology concentration within the M.Ed. in Kinesiology typically spans two years (one year for UVA undergraduates who've completed the B.S.Ed. in Kinesiology). Students can choose among three focused pathways:
A research-focused track for those pursuing advanced graduate studies or academic/research careers in Exercise Physiology, Physical Activity Intervention, or Exercise Science
A clinical practice track for careers in fitness/health promotion, physical activity programs, cardiac rehabilitation, or strength/conditioning
A hybrid option combining elements of both research and clinical specializations
