The Educational Psychology-Applied Developmental Science (EP-ADS) PhD program equips students with research skills to study and create interventions for children and adolescents in both educational and community environments.
Doctoral candidates in EP-ADS participate in coursework, conduct supervised research, collaborate with their academic teams, and assist in undergraduate education.
The program fosters vibrant intellectual exchange among students and faculty within the School of Education and Human Development and throughout the University of Virginia, enhanced by visiting scholars' workshops and lectures.
Through close faculty mentorship and research team involvement, EP-ADS students gain comprehensive research experience. During their approximately four-year journey, they master theories connecting educational and community contexts to youth development, adopt an asset-based approach to adolescent growth, and acquire essential research methodologies for advancing knowledge in educational and developmental sciences.
The curriculum includes practical research collaborations with government entities and school systems, ensuring studies address real-world challenges identified by educators and policymakers. This demanding doctoral program offers four years of guaranteed funding to all enrolled students as a core component of their academic journey.
