The Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Genetics provides a tailored academic program combining classroom instruction with hands-on training to earn a Ph.D. in Biochemistry. The curriculum aims to develop deep expertise in contemporary biochemistry, molecular biology, genetics, and biophysics while inspiring students with the wide-ranging, innovative research opportunities available through our faculty.
Faculty members form the Graduate Program Committee, responsible for guiding all departmental students. New students joining in July or September receive a Proposal Committee to plan their initial coursework and select their first of three lab rotations. After choosing a research advisor in the first year, the advisor chairs a Research Committee that supervises the remaining coursework and research work. Our faculty is committed to equipping students for successful careers in both academic and industrial settings. A defining feature of the program is personalized faculty mentorship, including individual guidance, presentation coaching, and continuous research strategy discussions.
