The Women, Gender & Sexuality (WGS) program offers an interdisciplinary exploration of gender dynamics and sexual identities. Students analyze societal challenges, literary works, scientific research, and historical contexts to cultivate a nuanced understanding of how gender and sexuality influence—and are influenced by—global cultures. The curriculum spans diverse subjects including political activism by women, bodily autonomy debates, LGBTQ+ family structures, and transgender rights. Current course offerings examine female representation in media and arts, athletics participation, queer theoretical frameworks, and gendered power structures. Academic credits for majors or minors are earned through WGS-designated classes as well as cross-listed courses from various departments. Collaborative offerings include partnerships with African American Studies, American Studies, Anthropology, Art History, Classics, Comparative Literature, Drama, East Asian Languages and Cultures, Education, English, French, German, History, Latin American Studies, Media Studies, Middle Eastern and South Asian Languages and Cultures, Music, Nursing, Philosophy, Political Science, Psychology, Religious Studies, Slavic Languages and Literatures, Sociology, Spanish, Italian, and Portuguese departments, among others. Updated course listings appear each semester in the online Course Offerings section.
