The Politics Department boasts the highest number of majors among all departments in the College. Since 2000, approximately 700 students annually have pursued one of our two degree programs—Government or Foreign Affairs—as their academic focus. Earning a Politics degree equips graduates with critical analysis skills, sharp reasoning abilities, and global awareness. Our programs emphasize developing analytical and critical thinking capabilities, empowering students to formulate original arguments about political systems. We intentionally challenge students' assumptions, fostering healthy skepticism toward conventional viewpoints. More crucially, we guide students in articulating well-supported perspectives using compelling evidence, clear language, and quantitative data to effectively communicate with colleagues, professionals, and the public. Politics graduates pursue diverse career trajectories, with most entering the workforce immediately. Many find employment in government, public service, journalism, or related sectors, while growing numbers continue their education through graduate studies in academic disciplines, policy programs, law schools, or other professional institutions nationwide.
